Park Services Part-time Hourly/Non-exempt Position Summary The Petting Zoo Attendant performs duties as assigned under the direct supervision of the Manager on Duty and/or as directed by the Zoo Animal and Park Curator and Manager of Recreation and Interpretation Services.
This position works with minimal direct supervision and has general responsibilities to include, but are not limited to performing skilled daily tasks relative to the animals in the Petting Zoo attraction of the Randall Oaks Zoo and Park.
Essential Responsibilities Completes general daily husbandry of Petting Zoo animals including:
Diet Prep Feeding Cleaning Medicating Behavioral Enrichment Maintains a clean, safe, and friendly Petting Zoo attraction by cleaning the Petting Zoo exhibit throughout the day and at the end of day including:
Reports animal illness, abnormal behavior and unsafe conditions promptly and work towards corrective measure.
Reports any issues to management regarding guest, patron, exhibit or animal.
Enforces and follows all Petting Zoo protocols and rules while operating the attraction.
Accurately completes all required reports daily.
Works with supervisory staff to ensure health and safety of animals, determining training techniques and enrichment programs.
Through the day, monitors guest-animal interactions in Petting Zoo area, ensuring safety of the animals and guests.
Supports DTPD's Mission statement, by providing excellent support to the Executive Director, Board of Commissioners and communicating with internal and external customers.
Assists other Park District employees when needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities - This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Marginal Functions/Responsibilities - Other non-essential duties as assigned.

Immediately reports all accidents and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
Cooperates and assists in the investigation of accidents.
Attends all required safety program and in-service education meetings.
Treats public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention.
Is courteous in all cases.
Pays strict attention to housekeeping of work area(s) and general facility.
Must be able to use personal protective equipment based on job specific tasks, which may include, but is not limited to, the following:
Appropriate work boots Protective gloves Qualifications At least 18 years old.
Some college with a focus on education, biology, zoology or a related field.
Some computer skills required.
Strong interpersonal, team-building and communication skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Good physical condition, sufficient strength, and mobility required.
Possess good problem solving skills and has capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergencies.
Ability to pay meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to execute the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Hours Standards This is a part-time limited position working up to 40 hours per week March through October.
Scheduled days Sunday - Friday, 7:
00 am - 5:
00 pm.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
